Three miles from Carrigart is Downings, a pleasant resort that commands a superb view of the Ards Peninsula and has a good sandy beach. The hand-woven tweed for which Donegal is famous may be inspected at the McNutts factory near-by.
You can reach out and touch the incredible Panorama of bay, beaches, mountains and coves which unfolds from the conservatory/dining-room of Downings Coastguard Cottages. Here is a view over Sheephaven Bay worthy of a long, lingering meal, where the changing light washes over the Atlantic waters and mountains creating and recreating exciting visual patterns of great beauty.
Downings is a picturesque fishing port, famous for the production of traditional Donegal tweed. Rosapenna 18-hole championship golf links lies beside the cottages, while nearby Carrigart has a Magnificent links course and equestrian centre. |
